A mobile site is a mobile version of an ordinary website – each is a “website,” but one is optimised to mobile and one to your computer, and each will have a different URL.

A responsive website keeps the same URL no matter if it’s on mobile or computer. It’s the same website – but the site responds to your screen size and configures itself automatically.

Neat. But which one should you use?

We believe responsive design is best. Creating a separate mobile page can work just as well, but the problem is that it’s much easier to get it wrong in setting up the page and halving how effective your search engine optimisation is (by essentially splitting your page in two).

It’s a view supported by Google’s former distinguished engineer, Matt Cutts, who created a video on the topic.

As a business, it’s important to minimise risk. To do this, a responsive website is the wise choice.
